Pro Bono Tech

For Digital Professionals

Until now, helping a local organization on a digital project has been an uphill battle: technologists, designers, data scientists, digital marketers, and product managers have had to carry the weight of project scoping, translation, product management, and navigating an organization’s technical debt just to begin volunteering.

Pro Bono Tech solves this challenge.

Pro Bono Tech is designed to make the experience of offering your tech skill more efficient, meaningful, and fun for both digital professionals and organizations. Pro Bono Tech goes beyond just pro bono work: technologists work together. Pro bono participants collaborate with peer professionals in the program, including and beyond their project team, to strategize, process, socialize, and expand their knowledge of relevant issues around tech and its impact on society.

How It Works

APPLY

We add pro bono digital professionals to our network on a rolling basis. To be considered for the Fall 2019 cohort, please express interest by filling out the survey below by August 30th. We will inform applicants of their acceptance for the Fall cohort by mid-September. Once accepted, you’ll be asked to sign an offer letter that outlines expectations and solidifies commitment.

SELECT

You will receive information about each nonprofit and pre-scoped project up to two weeks before program kickoff. You’ll then select onto a pro bono project based on a variety of factors. If you are interested in working with organizations addressing particular social issues, let us know in the survey.

EXECUTE

By signing up for Pro Bono Tech, you’ve signed up to complete the 6-week program with a small cohort of your peers starting in early-October. You’ll be expected to see the project through to the end of the program and work alongside your teammates to produce a high-quality deliverable for your nonprofit partner.

SHARE

At the end of the program, you and your team will present your project to the Pro Bono Tech cohort and the broader civic tech community. Civic Innovation Lab will evaluate both the impact of the specific projects executed based on agreed-upon metrics, as well as the overall Pro Bono Tech experience.
